What are the Requirements for Teaching at La Palabra de Vida Christian School?

Though highly desired, teaching certification and/or experience are not necessary qualities of teacher candidates for LPDV.  However, teachers are required to:

1.  Evidence and maintain a God-honoring lifestyle that testifies to their strong and growing relationship with Jesus Christ.  Teachers should consider their role not only as educators but as disciple-makers who lead by example.

2.  Understand and exercise their role as authorities in the classroom, both earning and demanding the respect of their students.

3.  Commit themselves to the task of student formation (academic, spiritual, social, and physical), not only in their classroom but also in the required investment of planning, grading, and collaborative interaction with administration and other staff members.

4.  Commit to at least one complete academic Costa Rican school year (February to mid-December).

What about Salary and Support Issues ($)?

LPDV School offers a competitive Costa Rican salary to both our national and international faculty.  International faculty members are encouraged to supplement this salary with support-raising from their sending communities.  This is not only to help cover the costs of US health insurance, travel, and other expenses, but also to acquire a core group of supporters who will pray for them and the LPDV ministry.   We encourage prospective applicants to apply through the Latin America Mission short-term missions program (www.lam.org/sts/).

Where do our International Teachers Live, and must they Speak Spanish?

The LPDV School Foundation rents, at a very modest rate, rooms in a four-bedroom house on school grounds to its International teachers (either to a group of males or a group of females).  Other housing arrangements can be made with Costa Rican families with connections to the school in the neighboring town of San Antonio de Belén.

It is not a requirement that international English teachers speak Spanish.  However, a basic level of Spanish is certainly helpful for communicating with parents and simply living in Costa Rica.
